Sustainable Business and a Non Growth Economy — Clay Goldberg

What kind of businesses and industries are right for Montrose? What makes a business sustainable? Instead of quantity why not quality? Is growth the only economic model? Could economic measures of success be quantified and traded less on the quantity but more on the basis of the quality of goods & services including the relation to the true environmental impact, resource usage and impact on other species? What is the true cost of “disposable” products? Are we paying the true cost of water from Fiji, shampoo from Australia, tulips from Holland and roses from Ecuador? Do we pay the true cost to jet around the world? How much wealth, energy and resources should each person be allowed to hoard or expend? What is a sustainable world population?

Join us to explore local, state, and international issues.  This group seeks to understand varied perspectives and examine new ideas for problem solving.  Everyone with an interest in such matters and a willingness to discuss them in a completely civil manner is invited.

The group meets in the Montrose Regional Library Meeting Room from 6:30 – 8:30 pm on one Thursday each month, May through January.
