Book Club: A Walk in the Woods

Join us!  This is a new date and time starting February 2018.  The Book Club will meet on the first Saturday of the month at 9:00 a.m. in the meeting room at the Library. These books were chosen at the group’s meeting in August 2017. For more information, call Tania Hajjar at 970/249-9656 (ext. 3).

The selection for September 2018 is A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, presented by Valerie McGlothlin.

The Appalachian Trail trail stretches from Georgia to Maine and covers some of the most breathtaking terrain in America–majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes. If you’re going to take a hike, it’s probably the place to go. And Bill Bryson is surely the most entertaining guide you’ll find. He introduces us to the history and ecology of the trail and to some of the other hardy (or just foolhardy) folks he meets along the way–and a couple of bears. Already a classic, A Walk in the Woods will make you long for the great outdoors (or at least a comfortable chair to sit and read in). -amazon.com

Crafternoon

Craftivism is using creativity to improve the world.  The library’s Crafternoon club practices craftivism by crocheting and knitting items for charity.  Crafters have made blankets for shelter animals, blankets for abused children, and hats for babies in need.  This fall we begin scarves, hats, and afghans for the homeless.  All ability levels are welcome, and supplies are provided.  Feel free to bring your own personal project to work on as well and enjoy the companionship of other crafters.

Donations of acrylic worsted yarn are always needed!

Crafternoon meets on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wednesdays every month, from 2:30 – 4:30, in the Montrose Library Meeting Room.  For more information, please call Carla or Tania at 249-9656.
