Great Decisions: State of the State Department and Diplomacy – March 28

Great Decisions is America’s largest discussion program on world affairs.  Developed by the Foreign Policy Association, the program intends to engage communities and broaden public involvement in foreign affairs.  The Foreign Policy Association provides background information and policy options for the eight most critical issues facing America each year.  Participants will view a related DVD and then participate in a discussion, led by Barbara Krebs of the League of Women Voters.  A briefing book is available at the library for check out or purchase.  The group meets on Thursday evenings February 7 through March 28, from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Montrose Library Meeting Room.


March 28: State of the State Department and Diplomacy

During the Trump administration, the usual ways of conducting diplomacy have been upended. Many positions in the State Department have never been filled, and meetings with foreign leaders such as Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin have been undertaken with little advance planning. What effect are these changes having now, and how will they affect ongoing relationships between the United States and its allies and adversaries?
