Marvin Gill endowed the Marguerite H. Gill Children's Room in honor of his mother, someone whom he greatly admired. Oscar and Alma Haas donated funding for the Story Room, located under the copper roof in the southwest corner of the Children's Area.
The Children's Room is staffed by Library Assistant Ann Sturgeon, Children's Services Librarian Janet Oslund, Children's Reference Librarian Sandra Smagala, and Outreach Coordinator Jana Ackerman, who delivers after-school programming at school sites on behalf of the Montrose Regional Library District.
Story times for toddlers, pre-schoolers, and day care clients are offered weekly in the Marguerite H. Gill Children's Room. Children, parents, educators, and other library users receive research and reference assistance at the Children's Reference Desk. Displays of children's artwork and collectibles are ongoing. Educators may obtain additional services such as tours and resourcing by calling 249-9656, ext. 327, in advance.
Books, videos, children's magazines, graphic novels, puppets, audio books, and music on CD are all available for circulation. Juvenile materials in Spanish are also provided. In addition, a Parent/Teaching collection is housed in the Children's Room. Access to an online suite of research databases is available at the Ebscohost computer in the Children's Room. This tool helps people locate information in periodicals and other sources such as online encyclopedias and picture databases.
The Marguerite H. Gill Children's Room is open during the library's regular operating hours. |
