Naturita Community Library “Literacy for Little Ones”

The Naturita Community Library presents an early literacy storytime every Tuesday at 11:15 am.  Every week we focus on one of the six early literacy skills which are:

  • Print Motivation = Books are Fun
  • Print Awareness = Words are Everywhere
  • Phonological Awareness = Take Time to Rhyme
  • Vocabulary = Explore New Words
  • Letter Knowledge = Look for Letters
  • Narrative Skills = Tell Me a Story

We choose the books, songs, and fingerplays that best fit the early literacy skill we are concentrating on that week.  We are not trying to teach the children to read; we are trying to give them the foundation they need so when they go to school they have the ability to learn to read.

We enjoy every minute with the children, and love watching them grow from their very first storytime where they are sitting on mom’s lap hiding their face, until they are right up front singing their favorite songs.
