Frontier Forts of Colorado
During the 19th century the U.S. government built forts throughout the West, first for economic trade and then to protect white settlements. Learn about the various types of forts in Colorado, particularly the western Colorado sites of Fort Davy Crockett, Fort Crawford, Fort Lewis, Fort Roubideaux and Fort Peabody. The history of frontier forts, while interesting in itself, also illuminates trends in the commerce, exploration, and ethnic diversity of the American West.
