Our Outreach team is thrilled to announce the return of our Bilingual Storytime this summer. Families are invited to join us at Buckley Park every Thursday at 10 a.m. June 4 – July 30.
This is not your typical family storytime. Each week offers something a little different, with a variety of storytelling styles that reflect the richness of bilingual expression, from having interactive stories, songs, movement, and sensory play.
Bilingual storytime is designed to keep children engaged while introducing them to hearing stories in both English and Spanish. Whether families are fluent in both languages or just beginning to explore, everyone is welcome to come and participate.
Bilingual storytelling offers a wide range of benefits for children and families alike. Research consistently shows that exposure to multiple languages at an early age supports cognitive development, enhances memory, and improves problem-solving skills. Beyond academics, it supports cultural awareness by helping children understand and appreciate perspectives different from their own.
For families, Bilingual storytime creates a shared space where we can learn or practice Spanish in a fun way. It allows parents and caregivers to connect with their children while also building confidence in using and hearing a second language. For those who speak Spanish at home, it is an opportunity to keep practicing and see and hear others learning your language in a welcoming public setting.
This program is also about community and being able to gather in an open space for those who might find it difficult to be in closed spaces. Having Bilingual Storytime as an outreach event at Buckley Park will allow families to connect with one another, build friendships, and create lasting memories while enjoying the summer sun. The curiosity, laughter, and excitement of the children and families that fill the park each week will be the testament to the power of stories bringing people and cultures together.
Bilingual storytime will not just bringing stories, songs, and sensory play but also the Bookmobile, our library on wheels! Families will be able to come and check out books, movies, and kits off of the Bookmobile. If you don’t have a library card, no problem. One of our Outreach Librarians will help you make your very own card.
We couldn’t be more excited to bring this program back for another summer to continue to grow it with our community. We invite everyone to come out, bring blankets, sunscreen, hats, and appropriate clothes to have fun with some messy or wet sensory play, and have a summer filled with stories, culture, and connection.

Nuestro Departamento de Servicios Externos está encantado de anunciar el regreso de nuestra hora de cuentos bilingüe este verano. Invitamos a las familias a acompañarnos en el Parque Buckley todos los jueves a las 10 a. m., del 4 de junio al 30 de julio.
Esta no es la típica hora de cuentos familiar. Cada semana ofrece algo un poco diferente, con una variedad de estilos de narración que reflejan la riqueza de la expresión bilingüe, incluyendo cuentos interactivos, canciones, movimiento y juego sensorial. La hora de cuentos bilingüe está diseñada para mantener a los niños interesados mientras se les introduce a escuchar historias tanto en inglés como en español. Ya sea que las familias hablen ambos idiomas con fluidez o que apenas estén comenzando a explorarlos, todos son bienvenidos a venir y participar.
La narración bilingüe brinda una gran variedad de beneficios tanto para los niños como para las familias. Los estudios han demostrado de manera constante que la exposición a múltiples idiomas desde una edad temprana favorece el desarrollo cognitivo, fortalece la memoria y mejora las habilidades para resolver problemas. Más allá de lo académico, también fomenta la conciencia cultural al ayudar a los niños a comprender y apreciar perspectivas diferentes a las suyas.
Para las familias, la hora de cuentos bilingüe crea un espacio compartido donde podemos aprender o practicar español de una manera divertida. Para quienes hablan español en casa, es una oportunidad para seguir practicándolo y ver y escuchar a otros aprender su idioma en un entorno público acogedor.
Este programa también trata sobre la comunidad y la posibilidad de reunirse en un espacio abierto para quienes podrían encontrar difícil estar en lugares cerrados. Tener la hora de cuentos bilingüe como un evento comunitario en el Parque Buckley permitirá que las familias se conecten entre sí, construyan amistades y creen recuerdos duraderos mientras disfrutan del sol de verano. La curiosidad, las risas y la emoción de los niños y las familias que llenan el parque cada semana serán testimonio del poder de las historias para unir a las personas y las culturas.
La hora de cuentos bilingüe no solo traerá historias, canciones y juego sensorial, sino también la Biblioteca Móvil, ¡nuestra biblioteca sobre ruedas! Las familias podrán venir y sacar en préstamo libros, películas y kits. En caso de que no cuente con una tarjeta de la biblioteca, nuestros bibliotecarios le ayudarán a obtener una.
No podríamos estar más emocionados de traer de regreso este programa otro verano más y seguir haciéndolo crecer con nuestra comunidad. Invitamos a todas las personas a acompañarnos, traer mantas, protector solar, sombreros y ropa adecuada para disfrutar de actividades sensoriales que pueden ensuciar o mojar, y vivir un verano lleno de historias, cultura y conexión.
